The Course
The course at Dorney Lake has already played host to two world class events since its completion in 2003. The Rowing World Cup in May 2005 and the World Rowing Championships in 2006 were both extremely successful events and offered a great opportunity for athletes and coaches to compete on this Olympic course.
The 2000m, eight-lane course has a parallel return lake that provides the ultimate warm-up and cool-down facilities. Although close to the River Thames the water in the lake is drawn from fresh boreholes and is of drinking water quality. Great care is taken to ensure that it is kept pollution free.
Using the blueprint of the previous two events, the site layout for the 2011 World Rowing Junior Championships will see all the crew facilities in the area close to the boating rafts.
Specific warm-up and rest areas will be provided for athletes close to the course and coaches will have access to cycle routes alongside the course during training.
With a stunning boat house, plenty of space for athletes and spectators and a ‘country park’ feel, Dorney Lake has established itself as an outstanding rowing venue and extremely popular with spectators too.
